Reifu  are sacred talismans of the Japanese Buddhist tradition, prepared for protection, blessing, and spiritual benefit by the Korinji abbot. They are not ornaments or spiritual curiosities, but objects of a living ritual lineage.

Each reifu is prepared in response to a particular need. After consultation, each is brushed by hand on paper using inks containing precious substances such as cinnabar and gold. It is then empowered through esoteric Shingon Buddhist ritual centered on Chintaku Reifu-son, a manifestation of the bodhisattva Myoken, revered for the mysterious efficacy of reifu.​

Reifu may be sought for many purposes. The corpus inherited at Korinji contains nearly 400 reifu addressing specific needs. While we cannot list all of those here, it may be useful to see some geneneral categories that are traditionally listed:
 

• freedom from illness, and long life

• removal of spiritual obstructions

• increase in position or rank

• fortune and long prosperity

• flourishing of one's descendants

• victory in conflicts and legal disputes

• success in business

• immunity from epidemic disease

• prosperous fields and healthy livestock

• safe travel

• exorcism of negative forces and entities

• avoidance of calamities

• protection from theft

• harmony and affection in relationships

• support from one's employees or superiors

• peace and stability in the household

• attainment of excellence in various arts

• one's wishes being fulfilled
