Omikuji: Divination Ritual
Kannon Hyakusen, the “Hundred Lots of Kannon,” is a traditional Buddhist form of oracular divination (omikuji) using one hundred numbered wooden lots. It invokes Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion, to grant guidance.
Consultation of the Kannon Hyakusen may be requested from Korinji. A ritual is conducted by our abbot during which mantras of various forms of Kannon are recited, and prayers made on behalf of the petitioner. One of the hundred lots is then drawn. The corresponding verse is read and explained.
The purpose of omikuji is not to predict the future: nothing is fixed. The result should thus be viewed as a source of reflection and guidance, revealing favorable or unfavorable tendencies and encouraging an appropriate course of conduct. Even a negative result may become the cause for positive developments, if it leads one to act with greater care, or to change one's direction.
Questions may concern such matters as work, relationships, marriage, travel, health, plans and undertakings, spiritual practice, or other circumstances of life. The only requirement is that the question should be sincere, and concerning a matter of genuine importance to the petitioner.

We will reply to confirm acceptance, and let you know when the ritual - which takes approximately one hour - will be performed. Afterward, our abbot will send you the divination result and interpretation.
