Open House at Korinji

Join us for an open house at Korinji: receive beginning meditation instruction, meet the abbot and residents, tour the monastery, and experience Japanese tea ceremony. 10am-12pm. Kakudo Mitsunaga Dai Ajari Visit

Shugendo Training

Kakudo Mitsunaga Dai-Ajari, the most famous living Mt. Hiei "marathon monk" and his student Shokai Koshikidake Soke, headmaster of the Mt. Koshikidake tradition of Shugendo, will both be at Korinji to teach and conduct kanjo (empowerments) related to Shugendo practice. Also offered will be the precious kechien kanjo, conducted by Ajari in the full Tendai manner.

Zen Life Retreat

Beginner's Sesshin at Korinji

Intensive meditation retreat led by Meido Roshi at our monastery in Wisconsin. Begins evening of Thursday 1/11 and ends Sunday morninig 1/14. This event is specifically geared toward beginners who have never attended a full sesshin before. It is also appropriate for those whose age or condition might preclude regular dai-sesshin. (Total amount of sitting per day is reduced, sleeping hours are increased). Full meditation instruction will be given the first evening.

Zen Life Retreat

Intensive meditation retreat led by Meido Roshi at our monastery in Wisconsin. Begins evening of Thursday 4/4 and ends Sunday morninig 4/7. Shugendo in Japan

Mountain Training at Mt. Koshikidake

Annual Mountain Training in Japan at Mt. Koshikidake (Yamagata). Led by Shokai Koshikidake Soke, the Headmaster of the Mt. Koshikidake tradition of Shugendo, and with special guest Kakudo Mitsunaga Dai-Ajari. Training includes the Jikkai Shugyo (10 Realms Practice), takigyo (waterfall training), meditation and ritual practice, and Saito Goma (fire ceremony). Mitsunaga Dai-Ajari will conduct Kechien Kanjo (empowerment) in the full Tendai manner for participants. Internal Cultivation Sesshin

This Dai-sesshin, led by Meido Roshi at our monastery in Wisconsin, will be conducted with the usual rigor but also a special focus: instruction and practice of the internal energetic cultivation curriculum handed down in the Rinzai Zen lineage, including practices centered on the navel center (tanden soku) and the methods transmitted by Hakuin Zenji. Partial participation will not be permitted for this sesshin: you must attend the entire training. Begins the evening of 7/7 and ends the evening of 7/13.

Obon (Urabon-e)

Join us at Korinji for this commemoration in honor of deceased ancestors and loved ones. Guests, including children, are welcome. After lighting candle lanterns and hanging them in the forest around the monastery grounds, a brief memorial service will be conducted in Korinji's main hall during which all may offer incense to the deceased. We will then have a campfire gathering and food together. Please RSVP by email.
