Residential Practice at Korinji Monastery

A separate transmission outside the scriptures,
not dependent on words or letters;
directly pointing at the human mind,
seeing one's true nature, and becoming Buddha.

- Description of Zen, attributed to Bodhidharma (ca. 5th century)

As the dharma gate which takes our own natural wisdom-mind to be the entrance, path and fruit of the Way, Zen may be said to be without fixed methods. The realization that comes from Zen is not limited to Buddhism but is simply the embodiment of what is inherent to all human beings.

This being said, many practice methods have been developed within various Zen lineages over the centuries. Rinzai Zen possesses unique methods carrying a distinctive energy.
