These are major work weekends; additional weekends will be scheduled.  Some may be subject to change.  To get on our volunteer work crew list, please  email Korinji.

Sesshin (Intensive Zen retreats)

  • February 11-14:  Winter Sesshin at the Japanese Culture Institute, Lake in the Hills, IL
  • August 10-15 (tentative):  Summer Dai-Sesshin at Camp Dewan, Burlington, WI
  • October 1-3:  Sesshin at Daiyuzenji Temple, Chicago, IL
  • Sep. 9-12:  European Sesshin in Laufen, Germany (near the Austrian border).  Information on the Daiyuzenji site here.
  • Dec. 1-8:  Rohatsu Sesshin at Daiyuzenji, Chicago, IL


Zazenkai  (short overnight retreats)

  • January 9-10:  University Student Retreat at Daiyuzenji, Chicago, IL

  • January 23-24:  Aikido, Zen and Misogi training at Huron Valley Aikikai, Ann Arbor, MI.  Proceeds benefit the Korinji Foundation and Brooklyn Aikikai.  Please see the Huron Valley Aikikai site here.

  • August 21: "Vertical Living" Seminar: a seminar instructing proper use of the body with focus on the psoas muscles, important core muscles affecting fundamental posture and balance.  Instructed by Tom Nagel, author and Zen priest, this three-hour course can fundamentally change how you use your body, and will be of value to all meditators and martial artists.  12-3 pm in Mt. Prospect, IL.  Proceeds benefit the Korinji Foundation.  Flyer here.


Zen Lectures/Talks

  • Every Sunday morning, 10am, at Daiyuzenji temple in Chicago; Teisho by one of the Daiyuzenji Roshi.  All are welcome.

  • Every Tuesday evening, 7:30pm, at the DePaul University Lincoln Park campus Student Center, room 320; sitting followed by open discussion with Meido Moore Roshi, hosted by the DePaul University Zen Society.  All are welcome (academic school year only; group does not meet in the summer).

  • Every Thursday evening, 7:30pm, at Northwestern University (Alice Millar Chapel); sitting, followed by a talk by Meido Moore Roshi, hosted by the Northwestern University Zen Society.  All are welcome (academic school year only; group does not meet in the summer).

  • May 18, at Northwestern University:  Meido Roshi lecture by invitation of NU faculty, 11am in Parkes Hall.

  • July 1, 7:00-8:30pm and July 3, 9:30-11am:  Lectures on Zen and daily life by Dogen Hosokawa Roshi, at Daiyuzenji temple in Chicago, IL.

  • July 14, at Northwestern University:  Meido Roshi lecture by invitation of NU faculty, 11am in Parkes Hall.


Meditation instruction for beginners, open meditation sessions, and chanting services are offered several times weekly at Daiyuzenji temple in Chicago, our current home; see Daiyuzenji's website here.
